Panama Canal Adjustment Surcharge

Subject:                    Panama Canal Adjustment Surcharge

Effective Date:       June 1, 2023

Dear Valued Client,

Carries have announced an adjustment surcharge on all vessels transiting the Panama Canal following historically low water levels that resulted in several draft restrictions.  The potential rate increase will likely range between $300 – $600 and will vary by carrier/routing.

The surcharge will apply to all shipments with:

Origin:  Asia (including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, and Japan)

Destination:  North America East Coast and U.S. Gulf Coast

In addition, carriers are imposing weight restrictions in order to comply with the maximum authorized draft.  As a result, heavy cargos will likely be rolled until after water levels return to normal.  Therefore, it is imperative that accurate cargo weight be provided at time of booking.

OCEANAIR is mindful of our customers’ interests, and we remain dedicated to providing competitive pricing across the board for ocean services.  That’s why we work with multiple carriers on different lanes and closely monitor the market to provide you with the most aggressive pricing and best routings available to meet your needs.
