The New Year Brings Higher U.S. Customs Fees

While the passage of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act) brings forth much-needed enhancement plan to improve the national surface infrastructure, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will increase certain fees to help fund the project. As of January 1, 2018, fees like the Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF). Only the minimum and maximum fee levels are changing, but the rate of .003464% remains the same. As a result, the minimum MPF fee will increase from $25.00 to $25.67, and the maximum fee will increase from $485.00 to $497.99.
