The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has announced that exporters may request a six-month extension for export licenses due to expire on or before December 31, 2020.
The extensions are being provided in response to situations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. “With the majority of the world’s consumers located outside of the United States, exports are a vital source of growth and revenue for American companies,” said Acting Under Secretary for Industry and Security, Cordell Hull. “The Department of Commerce is committed to cutting red tape and making it easier for exporters to drive our Nation’s economic recovery in the wake of the pandemic.”
According to the BIS notice, most requests for extensions will be reviewed and approved on an expedited basis within two to three business days, depending on the volume of requests received. Requests for the extension should be submitted via email to LicenseExtensionRequest@bis.doc.gov.
