In a Presidential Proclamation issued on April 30, President Trump has extended an exemption from higher steel import duties for Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, the European Union, Mexico, and South Korea until June 1. After June 1, only Argentina, Australia, Brazil and South Korea will be exempt. An exemption for aluminum duties for Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, the European Union, and Mexico has also been extended to June 1 but, after that date only Argentina, Australia, and Brazil will be exempt.

As of May 1, 2018, aluminum articles from South Korea are subject to the Section 232 import duties. Importers may receive a quota hold message for imports of such articles, but, a quota is not in effect for imports of aluminum from South Korea. However, according to CBP CSMS# 18-000316, iron or steel products imported from South Korea are subject to absolute quota.
NOTE: No drawback shall be available with respect to the Section 232 duties imposed on any aluminum or steel article.
