In an effort to restore American competitiveness, President Trump issued an executive order pausing the initiation of new Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) investigations and enforcement actions for 180 days—subject to individual exceptions—while enforcement guidelines undergo review by the Attorney General. The order argues that excessive and unpredictable enforcement of the FCPA has put U.S. companies at a disadvantage when competing abroad. The FCPA, a U.S. law prohibiting the bribery of foreign officials, remains in effect while its enforcement guidelines are reassessed.

Additionally, President Trump announced a new focus on reciprocal trade, directing a review of tariffs and other trade barriers imposed by U.S. trading partners with the potential for reciprocal measures. The announcement comes amid recent tariff increases from China, including a 15% tariff on U.S. coal and liquefied natural gas, as well as a 10% tariff on crude oil, agricultural machinery, and large-engine vehicles.

Large U.S. truckload carriers are focused on meeting customers’ capacity needs while ensuring more stable revenue and margins. In response, many companies are shifting more trucks and drivers to dedicated divisions, reinforcing a long-term industry trend accelerated by a nearly three-year freight downcycle. This shift also reflects shippers’ growing preference for reliable capacity and aligns with the post-pandemic expansion of shipper-owned private fleets.
