What is Duty Drawback?
The duty drawback law, pass by Congress in 1789, allows importers to receive refunds of import duties on merchandise that is later exported. By providing refunds of import duties and taxes, American exports are more attractive to foreign buyers due to their more competitive pricing. Imported merchandise can be exported in either the same condition in which it was imported (Unused Merchandise Drawback) or following a manufacturing process (Manufacturing Drawback).
